Attached below are some valued articles that I strive for my communtiy to read and engage with. There are a variety of subjects and groups of people that each one affects. Although these are no where near all of my published articles, they all have a reason to be showcased. It is important to become educated on the world around you.
THC is more popular than nicotine for high school students, is something I never thought I would hear my principal say.
Throughout this process, I got to work on my investigative journalism skills. Having to work with administration while finding students that are willing to share information about their addiction was something I had to walk a fine line with.
This is the first of a developing series aimed to promote awareness about the devices and how vaping can affect one's health.
The vape coverage will go under our "Developing Stories" badge for SNO 2025-2026.
I did not know how many LHS students were involved in the Miss America Program until I wrote this article. I spent a lot of time researching the organization and the NH chapter and in the end had a new appreciation for its mission. From starting non-profits, taking initative and giving so much back to their community, these students wholeheartedly deserve the scholarships and acolades they earn.
After seeing my teacher pick up this paper off her desk, I was prompted with one hundred different thoughts. I got lucky as an administrator entered the room, I was one of the first to learn about the latest phone updates. I knew that there was going to be a new policy regarding phones, but I certainly didn't think they were going to use cell phone jails.
We adapted to the law at a very slow pace from allowing students to use it during transition periods as well as free periods. Then we fully complied.
The New Hampshire Law (SB 206) mandates a bell to bell ban on personal communication devices in public schools.
This was a very stressful and sad news update to write. Unlike many other teams, the swim team only had one place where they could practice and train as a team. Never did they have to find ways around the issue every day.
After the boiler broke that heats the pool, the swimmers had to navigate a way to practice somewhere else. Salem Workout Club, Boys and Girls Club, and even not swimming days on end. After many weeks of stressful planning, the pool has returned to its normal conditions.
Throughout writing this update I learned how committed our swimmers are to their athletic careers.
When I was interviewing students for this story, I did not realize how many students overlap with Alvirne's programs.
Londonderry does not have a nursing program. Students who plan to study nursing normally will sign up for Alvirne's CTE program and head there at the end of their LHS day for the next set of their classes.
Students have the opportunity to enroll in Alvirne electives once they are sophomores. Due to students going back and forth between campuses, this caused an issue with schedules as well as student transportation to and from LHS on time.
I have never really liked bats. When I found out a bat entered the building during a school day the only thing I was worried about was safety.
After I researched more about bats in New England, it just happens that bats go into buildings as a way to find shelter and warmth. I did not know that bats were an endangered species and that it is illegal to kill a bat in the state of New Hampshire.
The bat found in the building also carries white nose disease. Luckily, the bat flew into the science wing, so adults who are trained in this area were able to handle the situation.
Reporting on the College Board's Crash was one of the most exciting days I have chased a story. I got a email from the principal that the system has crashed and students that tested were being dismissed.
I quickly learned that this wasn't the first time College Board has faced this issues. As a national wesbite made strictly for educational testing, it can easily crash when a large amount of students log on at once.
Hey College Board, you should look into that..... 😉
This year the school store had to fully rework all of the products sold. Ensuring that they all don't have added in sugar and other ingredients no longer allowed. After talking with the staff involved with running this business, it was marked unfair; if students want snacks and drinks with added sugar, they can purchase them in their free time or open campus; the store has ultimately lost most of its fame.
I am not that familiar to the store but I know that there used to be kids running around with the famous cookies and cold bottles of soda and ice tea.
The school store has started to face issues with raising money due to change in products and more students taking advantage of the opportuntiy to leave campus during their free periods.
In a school of almost 1,400 students, I often wondered how many stopped by their lockers in between class periods. Following this, the administrative team decided to get rid of a good handful of lockers in the older wing of the building. The walls that once held the lockers are now filled with murals from different graduating classes and organizations.
I covered the state primary during my second year on staff. Last year, I held the position of News Editor, one of my first times becoming engaged with how our local government ran, when it was time for the primary elections.
Although I will not be 18 until June, and I am unable to vote, I encourage younger students and community members to get involved and to truly understand how the community they live in runs.
If you don't understand how it works..... You shouldn't have an opinion.
The past two years I leanred the importance of reporting quickly, accurately, and proficently. Not just from the basic he-said-she-said and who was involved, but how the story impacts others. In high school especially, there is always so many things occurring in the community that many don't know about, and I have tried to do the best job raising awareness and spreading accurate information to the best of my ability. I hope to continue to do so in the future.
