This was my first video overall for the 2025-2026 school year. Although it was short I thought it was sweet. For the past four years we have created the community that we are going to graduate with and it was great to share with all my peers. It was something special for the Class of 2026.
My first Behind The Scenes Video. Something I struggled with in this video was the level of the microphones; some sections were much louder, and some were softer. Some resources are not able to fully target these issues, but it was a great learning curve to get over.
This was also a very educational, as I tried different tools and compiled it differently. I also had to negotiate getting through interviews with no voice. You may think Belle was a different person in the first part, but it was just me!
I will never forget the joy on these students faces for being featured. When I walked into the meeting, some of my friends thought I was joining the team and I laughed as I turned on my microphones.
Students caught on from my press pass that I was here to cover them. They were so willing to share information and fun facts about their team. This is something that made me realize that all areas of the school community deserve to be highlighted.
I have never been down south and never visited an area that was so known for its music and composition. As journalists, the gift of art and storytelling is such an important part of our journey.
This year, some members of The Lancer Spirit Editorial Staff got to visit Nashville, also with some prospective editors who may be joining the Editorial Board in the fall.
One thing I love about having my own section of multimedia is that I get to craft it strictly based on my interests and the things I believe are important. Outside of Journalism, I am a part of the Chamber Choir and the Jazz Band at the high school and an avid supporter of the arts.
This year, I started covering things that don't get as much attention, but this was nice to highlight more of the people that are very important to me.
This was the first multimedia video I ever had full control over. 10 months ago, the gym faced structural issues.
I struggled not having microphones to clearly hear the students I was interviewing and struggled with transitions.
What I learned? Slow down. Each "whip" across the screen's duration were very quick, and it's a joke in my house that if you watch the full thing, you might get motion sickness.
I give myself credit for trying something new.
As I started to explore more of what multimedia means to me, it was a little bit of a rocky start. From microphones coming off as fuzzy and crackling to cameras dying the second you start an interview. Not only did this section get me out of my comfort zone, but it also reminded me that I was capable of new things that I wanted to try. Over the past two years, I have really pushed myself to try and cover different sections.
The idea of taking something on outside of your comfort zone can be both intimidating and very educational. I also found a hidden love that I had no idea I would have had that much attraction to.
You will never know how successful you can be if you don't try.
For the rest of Behind The Scenes - Kelsey Sweet ..... More coming soon.
