News Project: The Harvard Crimson Journalism Summit 2025 ⬆️
During my time spent at The Harvard Crimson, one of our larger projects was to go out and report. Along with my teammates I designed this layout for our story. At the end of the Summit, we recieved great feedback from The Harvard Crimson Staff.
This was the first design I ever created while being a part of my school's publication. During your first year of journalism, you have to learn all of the basic elements, and this design is about as basic as it gets.
I took an image from Pinterest and put it into Adobe, where I used a blurring brush feature to wipe across her face. In a way, she looks like she is standing in the wind but also distraught. I used regular fonts to write the words, and tried to scatter words in the bottom corner of the image.
Ultimately, I know this is not a great design, but it was my first, and you have to start somewhere. Since then, I started getting more confortable with Canva, I have contributed to making ticket templates, our monthly issues, and other elements.
Over the last three years, I have learned my strength is Canva, not Adobe, but you need both strengths in a staff. Although I might not be the best with Adobe, I am always willing to try.
This year, our most recent Editorial Staff Member, Ava Cristian, holds the position of Art Director. She oversees those who create, but also draws for all the stories that need media. If we write opinion pieces, she normally offers to draw for the featured images where she can highlight her talent while supporting other writers. I hope that in the future, I can grow more in this area.

Over the past three years, in addition to writing, I have contributed to the full design of every issue of The Lancer Spirit Magazine, whether taking photos, creating my own templates or being an extra hand when someone needed it.
