If you do not feel comfortable with Google Classroom, I WOULD NOT recommend starting a Google Site right away. However, please know that they DO serve different purposes. If you are looking for a landing page for students AND parents, I WOULD recommend looking into Google Sites, as parents do not have access to Google Classroom.
Learn more about the differences between Google Classroom and Google Sites by watching this video by teacher and instagrammer A Primary Kind of Life. She goes over the very basics, as well as more advanced features, of creating your own Google Site.
I would recommend watching her Instagram Story videos (below) FIRST, then go to her sample teacher website here.
(Teachers must be signed into Google with their school accounts to view these two videos.)
Don't forget to search for the hashtag #teachergooglesites on social media (especially Instagram) to find more inspiration for your own Google Site!
If you want cute graphics (icons, buttons, banners, etc.), you can create your own using PowerPoint, Google Drawings, Google Slides, Canva, or Procreate (on iPad). You can also purchase pre-made themes on Teachers Pay Teachers, if you are interested, as well.
