Birthday Book Club Information

The Birthday Book Club allows parents, grandparents, or friends to donate a book to the Chicora or Sugarcreek Library in honor of a special child in their life. The Birthday Book Club (BBC) provides a lasting way to celebrate your child’s birthday.

By donating a book through the BBC, you will support our library by adding a book chosen from a carefully selected list, and will provide your child with the opportunity to give the gift of reading to our school in celebration of their big day! You can also donate a book to the BBC in honor of another child’s birthday (instead of buying a gift, gift a book in their honor!), or for other special occasions in your child’s life. It is the gift that keeps on giving for many years!

If you choose to participate in the BBC, your gifted book will have a special birthday donation sticker placed inside of the front jacket stating that it was donated to Chicora or Sugarcreek Elementary School in honor of your child. The morning of the celebration, your child will see celebratory items set up around the school and library to help make their day special. The morning announcements will contain a special message for each BBC student, telling about their new book. Your child’s picture will then be added to the BBC bulletin board in the library. Not only this, but your child will also be the first to check out the book from the library and their class will have a special celebration in honor of their birthday during the library time closest to their big day. Each new member of the BBC will also get a special birthday bookmark and pencil as a bonus gift from Mrs. Grabowski.

How to Donate:

· Prior to your child’s birthday, please visit our BBC wish list on Amazon.

· Please know that your child does not have to wait until his/her birthday to join the BBC. You can make your purchase anytime during the school year! Summer birthdays can be celebrated in the fall, or on their half-birthday. If you child has a birthday at the end of the school year, you may want to consider celebrating on their half-birthday. This way, students will be able to enjoy their book for a longer period of time, as book circulation stops 2 weeks before the end of school.

· In order to ensure that the BBC books last a long time, we ask that all BBC donations be NEW, HARDCOVER books from our wish list. Wish list books have been carefully selected to enhance our collection.

· If you would like to purchase a title not found on the wish list, please contact Mrs. Grabowski in the library at wgrabowski@kcasdk12.org.

· Once you and your child have purchased a book, please have Amazon ship the book directly to us at either:

-Sugarcreek Elementary School, 1290 State Route 268, Cowansville, PA 16218

· In the comments section, be sure to include your child’s name (first and last), date of birthday or special event, the age they are turning, teacher, and who the book is from (Ex. Love, Mom and Dad).
