The following is how I plan to keep my class organized and running smoothly:
Students' behavioral expectations are established at the beginning of the school year using examples and stories.
Classroom rules are reviewed often and posted in the classroom.
Classroom rules are as follows:
Follow Directions
Walk
Be Nice
Use Inside Voices
Share With Others
The following techniques are used to correct unacceptable behavior:
Get the child's visual attention by lightly touching the child's arm, explain to them what is acceptable
I may give a physical prompt to facilitate desired behavior (for example, I may guide the child to the line or to the activity he is supposed to be working on)
I may ask them if they would like to do what they are supposed to be doing or if they would rather go sit in time out (the child's request is honored and the child is invited to rejoin the group as soon as they are showing acceptable behavior)
The parent is notified if the child is acting in an unusual (for that child) or bizarre way
I look for desirable behaviors and verbally reinforce them on a daily basis (for example "you are doing a good job listening")
