Bamboo grows fast, grows everywhere in the Philippines, and is incredibly strong. So, here’s a thought:
Why aren’t we using more bamboo instead of imported steel, lumber, or hollow blocks?
Turns out—we can, and we should.
Construction grade bamboo helps cut down on carbon emissions, slows deforestation, and makes building homes more affordable for everyone.
In combination with innovative building technology, bamboo might just be the building material of the future—and it’s been growing in our backyard all along.
We understand that the price of building materials is often the deciding factor when it comes to construction.
That’s why we’re making bamboo work for you.
We offer durable, affordable, and accessible bamboo solutions—so you don’t have to choose between quality and cost.

Come visit our facility in Dauin. We have some great examples of bamboo construction on site, and we are open to visitors Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm.
We also regularly host hands-on trainings for builders and designers who want to deepen their skills in bamboo construction.
The Durability Factors
Species selection, treatment, and design are critical factors for achieving longevity. The chart above illustrates the approximate lifespan of untreated and treated bamboo used in construction under various environments.
Bamboo’s lifespan depends on how it’s used and protected—especially in tropical climates.
Ground Contact: Untreated bamboo in direct contact with soil can rot in just 6–9 months.
Treatment: Without chemical treatment, bamboo lasts less than 2 years due to pests and rot.
Design: Treated bamboo, protected from rain and sun, can last 30+ years.
Maintenance: With regular care and easy repairs, bamboo structures can stay strong for over 30 years.
With the right treatment, design, and upkeep, bamboo is a long-lasting building solution.
Modern bamboo design and construction is still fairly new—it’s really only started gaining momentum in the last 20 to 30 years. Because of that, most universities and professionals haven’t had much exposure to structural design or durability training focused on bamboo.
In the Philippines, organizations like Base Bahay are teaming up with international partners to push bamboo forward. Together, we are exploring new ways to standardize bamboo systems and develop innovative, sustainable building solutions.
