Ivan is an easygoing gorilla living in a shopping mall. He has grown accustomed to humans watching him through the glass walls of his domain. He rarely misses his life in the jungle. In fact he hardly ever thinks about it at all. Instead, Ivan thinks about TV shows he's seen, his friends Stella and Bob, and painting. Then he meets ruby a baby elephant taken from her family and she makes Ivan see their home and his own art through new eyes. When Ruby arrives, change comes with her and it's up to Ivan to make it a change for the better. This book is very easy and fun to read and I would recommend in to kids from age 7 to 14.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is an international bestseller that uses impressive literary devices such as use of second-person narrative and metaphors. One of my favourite metaphors from the book is when the protagonist, Anakin Skywalker, has a vision that his wife, Padmé, is going to die in childbirth. Stover uses a dragon to represent this fear, and expresses that Anakin thinks he can only save his wife by joining the dark side. Anakin’s world is changing, and so is he. A life-changing event approaches, someone he holds close to his heart isn’t who he thinks he is. Will Anakin stay loyal to the Jedi?
I would recommend reading this book because it gives an in depth explanation to what was going on in Anakin’s brain throughout his experiences. The way Stover writes about emotions is truly phenomenal, while his action scenes are always detailed and powerful. Any fan of the Star Wars franchise would enjoy this book. People looking for an amazing story with compelling characters, emotions, and dilemmas would also be likely to be interested.

"Missing Mike" by Shari Green is one of last year's Surrey School Book of the Year nominees. The book's genre is Realistic Fiction. In the story, Cara's best friend is a rescue dog named Mike who only has one eye from a fight with coyotes. The adventure begins when Cara's town of Pine Grove is forced to evacuate because of a wildfire. The problem is that when it is time for her family to go, they can't find Mike anywhere and are forced to leave him behind. Cara is devastated and very worried, but she knows one thing. She is not going to lose Mike and nobody can stop her from going back into the danger zone to search for him. I would recommend this book because there is adventure. As well, I liked it because I really connected with Cara and her love for Mike as I would also do anything for my pet. It is an interesting story because it is written in a poetry style. I think intermediate students who like animals, poetry, and adventure would love this book!

"Bloom" is book one of a trilogy by Canadian author Kenneth Oppel. The invasion begins--but not as you'd expect. It begins with rain. Rain that carries seeds. Seeds that sprout--overnight, everywhere. These new plants take over crop fields, twine up houses, and burrow below streets. They bloom--and release toxic pollens. They bloom--and form Venus flytrap-like pods that swallow animals and people. They bloom--everywhere, unstoppable. Or are they? Three kids on a remote island seem immune to the toxic plants. Anaya, Petra and Seth each have strange allergies--and yet not to these plants. What's their secret? Can they somehow be the key to beating back this invasion? They'd better figure it out fast, because it's starting to rain again.... I could not put this science fiction thriller down or read it fast enough! I would recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense and action. There are some gory parts so beware and some people do die. I really enjoyed watching the friendship develop between Anaya, Petra and Seth and how they bonded together to fight the invasion. I can't wait for part two "Hatch" to be released this fall as this book ends with a big cliff hanger that will leave you wanting more.
