As of 4-1-25 THIS IS STILL CONSIDERED ONGOING- THERE ARE STILL SHOOTERS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN APPREHENDED. There are still people who harmed Karly, but we may never get to see all of them held accountable.

COURT UPDATES:
TYVEL LAMPKIN-DAVIS SENTENCING was in 2023 and he was given 5 years probation. NO JAIL TIME.
VERDICT FOR KIWAN DAMPEER was found guilty on all charges, yet has not been sentenced yet as of 1-2-24 and will not be until March 2024.
Trial for Imhotep Davis was postponed 3x and is now scheduled for FEB 2024.
Imhotep Davis was found guilty on all 7 counts he was tried for. However, for Karly, the jury gave him manslaughter rather than 2nd degree murder. A very gut-wrenching blow for her family. There is a jury instruction that would have helped to explain the exact definition, that was not given to them. However, with all 7 charges and guilty verdicts, he is looking at significant time of sentencing. Karly will never come home, and no one wins. However, the family was hoping for all guilty verdicts and that was attained. Sentencing is next.
After a wait until December 4 (Karly's grandfather's birthday) sentencing day came. 51 supporters and people who loved Karly Rain submitted victim impact letters to the court for review and we thank them all! The judge listened to you! He gave heavy consequences warranted for a repeat felon 4x felon who chose to spray a room and take a life. He chose to carry a firearm as a felon and he knew he was prohibited from doing so. Join our mailing list for detailed sentence outcomes on each charge. Imhotep was sentenced to 129-162 years in prison for all counts. He will probably appeal and we will be sure to represent our Karly Rain.
The building Karly was killed in - is slated to become a theraputic group home for girls. Karly's mom and some volunteers went in and tried to bring some of Karly's positive and empowering energy to the space. While they may not agree with the location of this home, they are glad that something positive is trying to become of the tragedy ridden building. Karly's message and encouragement in confidence and independence will be shared throughout the girls' stay.

This was about the increase of juveniles who are committing violent felonies and crimes.

surprised Karly's family with a wonderful post honoring her for Women's history month. It was a great write up that honored her spunk, essence and drive... it brought tears to our eyes.
Thank you to her friend Emmy for thinking of it and making it happen.
NOV/DEC 2024
Karly's army of Pink supporters stepped up and joined with Karly's mom and donated to 3 different families and one Senior Citizen. We adopted these families for the holidays to fill the void of being able to buy gifts for Karly and to share her love of gift giving. Through Heartland Hope and The Salvation Army adopt a family progams we made a single mom with a newborn able to have a crib, clothes and more. 2 families with young kids to be able to work on their love of art, perfume, pink, blankets and make up! Their wish lists literally were all things Karly! Another with musical instruments, beauty products and family dinner gift cards.
We thank all who helped!
We got thank you cards from all the families and the senior citizen lady wrote a personal message.
We plan to continue this, if you want to help next year, please let us know.
MAR 2024
Karly's mom started paperwork for Karly's Foundation. We hope to raise enough funds to get this started and continue to not only fight for change but spread her kindness and random acts of gifting.
We still plan to get her memory place and headstone for friends to be able to go connect with her.

Currently, corrections is run by A Douglas County Board Commissioners (most cities the sheriff's office runs corrections) and does not confer with The Douglas County Sheriffs Office or Law Enforcement who know these repeat offenders well when deciding who to let out on their PRE TRIAL RELEASE PROGRAM? Did you know, there is NO mental health expert or eval done before this panel decides let them out on PRE TRIAL RELEASE?
Currently, Law Enforcement DOES NOT have access to GPS locations on criminals with GPS locator ankle monitors?

April 16 2023:
Karly's mom organized and planned a Celebration of Life on what would have been Karly's 21 Birthday. Over 250 people came and not only celebrated a life extremely well lived but heard from family, friends, and elected officials Senator Pete Ricketts, Senator Suzanne Geist, and Douglas County Sheriff Aaron Hanson. City Council member Aimee Melton was in attendance as well as a few news channels and papers.
They included all elected officials: Karly's family invited all city council members, all Douglas County Commissioners, the new governor Jim Pillen, The Mayor, police chief and all of the members of the Nebraska judiciary committee.
This event titled Under Pink Skies & Butterflies included ALL things Karly Rain and transformed Stocks & Bonds venue into a Pink wonderland. A Fragrance Bar, All things Karly Boutique, Food, Candy Bar Cotton Candy tree and specialty drinks with edible flowers. A non alcoholic sparking pink cider fountain and butterfly zone.
Guests were given" no ugly crying" tissues and watched videos of her coupled with interviews of those who knew karly best. White clouds, pink skies and a musical journey through Karly's personal playlists.

Karly's Mom accepted an invitation to the Douglas County Commissioner's judiciary committee meeting and discussed topics like 911, emergency management, and corrections pretrial release program. There is a link to the entire meeting.

THERE ARE OVER 800 people currently on pretrial release in Douglas county? Corrections Director stated pretrial is working well as it opens up beds for "paying customers" (meaning US MARSHALLS fugitives, who pay the county $120/day) The County made 1million in revenue from these "paying customers"

Amber met with Director of Corrections Mike Meyers, he is supposed to call June 6 for another meeting follow up. (update: as of July 8, she has not heard back from him for that follow up meeting)
Mike said that there is a form that is being put for approval to allow law enforcement access to GPS live location of those on supervision.. this should ALREADY be in place!!! Perhaps The county board, should NOT solely be in charge of corrections... perhaps it should be them AND the sheriff's office. Seems logical to have law enforcement entity have a part of running corrections and collaborating for public safety. Your thoughts?
PRE TRIAL release before Karly was murdered was messed up and is only now having adjustments made. This is no excuse for the lack of detail and making violent offenders or repeat felons even eligible. Some of the criminals involved with the shooting that killed karly were on pre trial and or FEDERAL supervision... felons with guns and disregard for the law. How did no one see they were out late at a place they shouldn't be?

Karly Rain's mom has been attending OMAHA 360 meetings for over a month now.
She was on KFAB news radio the Scott Voorhees Show with NIkki Gradoville (widow of Chris Gradoville, murdered by someone on pre trial release) and another show with with Bryan Riley.
June 1 Nikki and Amber want change and want answers.
JUNE 5, She was on with Bryan Riley, a small business owner and former gang member who is still paying his dues to the community for a criminal decision. THEY both want to see offenders held accountable for crimes to teach the lesson that crime doesnt pay, but also want to see the mental health aspect addressed properly in detention!

The agenda was very disrespectful of citizen and speakers' time. Amber was joined by over 8 people some of who had to leave before they were able to give testimony on this Juvenile resolution. Tax dollars at work and wasted. There was a presentation that should have been in a separate upstairs meeting. IT seems as it was by design of the chair woman. Blatant disregard for people's time including our paid for public servants as the sherriff, some of his team and the city prosecutor who spent half of their day waiting for the topic to come up after a recess, ONLY TO BE PUSHED TO ANOTHER DAY!!!!!!! Waste of your tax dollars! THIS meeting will be pushed to AUGUST 8, 2023

AUGUST 2023:
Karly Rain's mom attended another Douglas County Board Meeting to address what should have been in June.
Speaking against the county opening a new juvenile facility that held only 54 beds rather than the current facility that holds 102. Juvenile crime is on the rise and the current juveniles in the facility are 77. This project and building was a poorly thought out waste of tax payer dollars and a gross oversight of the growth in juvenile crime AND the growth of douglas county that will also create more crime not less. ITs a fact of growth. She was joined by other mothers, relatives of victims of crime and murder. Victims of the DCYC system that is not helping the kids and parents. Just sending them home to keep numbers down, that is putting public safety at risk. This effort with the Douglas county sheriff Aaron Hanson and County prosecutor Don Kleine along with other community program reps was able to get a resolution passed to NOT open this new too small facility until they consistently reach 52 kids or less for a consecutive 6months... WE need to address this issue with a proper facility and address mental health all while keeping public safety at the top of our concern!
WE WON THAT RESOLUTION...for now... there are power in numbers folks.. speak up and CALL YOUR REPS!!!

There are no current checks and balances for the community programs the board gives tax money to? How can we hold community non profits accountable to check that they are actually helping the citizens they are being given money to do? What is their recidivism rate? Does it work?

SEPT 2023:
Karly Rain's mom was on the news KETV 7 and asked about the building that Karly was killed in. It is being turned into a group home for troubled girls.
The buyer of the building was never told about the murder and issues that building has had.
DID YOU KNOW?
Nebraska currently doesn't have a law that requires real estate agents to disclose murder or suicide in properties? Most states do. It is called a tainted property... WE NEED TO CHANGE THIS LAW. This was unethical of the people who sold it and the guy who knew but still mislead folks.
I have mixed emotions about the facility, perhaps it is Karly or the universe stepping in to ensure no more illegal and back handed things are being done with that building in hopes that something good is going to come of it and her story can help young girls BUT.. I also think that the area it is in IS NOT THE BEST location for girls to get a new start or to be the safest .. We shall see what happens but we hope that Karly's story can help many.

SEPT 19 2023:
TRIAL WILL BEGIN FOR ONE OF THE PERSONS INVOLVED WITH THE MASS SHOOTING THAT KARLY WAS KILLED AT. This person was part of a murder as a juvenile and at the time of the shooting was on federal supervision as well as pre trial for other violent offenses. Clearly he wasn't being "monitored". There is a flaw in this system when someone is allowed to repeat offend over and over!

JAN 2024: A SMALL WIN FOR VICTIMS
Karly Rain's mom spoke in front of the Nebraska Crime Victim reparations Fund Board. She wanted to share the loss and process as well as ask them to increase the maximum amount from the current amount to 10-12k a minimum for most funerals so that families can give their loved ones a dignified funeral for loved ones who were innocent and abruptly lost their lives to criminals. The current director was hoping to increase it to 8,000
Amber was the first victim this committee has ever heard from and they were given a victim perspective.
The committee voted , this request passed and the amount was doubled to $10, 000.
An amazing win for future families and for victim voices!

The current amount was only $5000 with many stipulations and that doesn't even get a bare bones funeral. Our children and victims deserve to be honored and not minimalized..
OCT 2023:
Karly Rain's mom SPOKE in front of with the UNMC BOARD OF REGENTS
She still has not been spoken to by any medical staff DR or EMT who tried to help her daughter, she doesn't know what medically happened and wants answers.
Several people came up to her after the meeting and said they would get with her. AS OF 1-2024 NO ONE HAS reached out!

UPDATE: HE WAS GIVEN only 5 years probation, for his role in this night...and evidence.
VERDICT FOR KIWAN DAMPEER WILL BE RENDERED BY JUDGE RUSSELL BOWIE on OCT 4
UPDATE : as of 1-2024 he has still not been sentenced.,, even though he was found guilty. Next sentencing date is MARCH 2024
