General information

Kamieńczyk Waterfall is the highest waterfall in the Polish Sudetes - 846 m above sea level. It is located on the route from Szklarska Poręba to the main ridge of the Karkonosze Mountains. The waterfall is one of the greatest attractions of Karkonosze National Park - strictly protected area andearlier  had the status of a monument of nature.

The water of the Kamieńczyk stream falls in three cascades from a height of 27 m and flows into the Kamieńczyk Gorge. The central cascade initially forms one stream, which splits on rock ledges one and a half meters below. The width of the stream at the waterfall is about 15 m, and downstream it decreases to even 3 meters. The walls are 30-35 meters high. At the foot of the waterfall there is a five-meter-high evorsian cauldron filled with rock blocks. Below the waterfall there is a 100 m long canyon.

Golden Cave (Złota Jama)

Behind the central cascade there is a grotto called the Golden Cave, artificially carved by the Walloons, who used to find amethysts (ametyst) and pegmatite (pegmatyt) here centuries ago. In the 19th century, on the wave of interest in mountain tourism, the waterfall became a tourist attraction. In 1890, the Karkonosze Society made it available for sightseeing. Due to unfortunate accidents, the walls of the gorge were covered with a net, which was to prevent falling rock fragments .
