Role of a Batch Advisor
Duties as a batch advisor
Institute's list: Roles and Responsibilities of Faculty Advisors
Read the Information Booklet provided by the Institute. This will help you answer/address many queries from students. (PS: When in doubt, contact HoD. Always take informed decisions.)
The very first time you meet your batch of students, use it as an ice breaker.
Make them feel comfortable to approach and speak to you without hesitation.
Instruct them to go through the Information Booklet so that they are aware of the possibilities of their program.
Help them understand the Grading system (already part of Information Booklet).
Explain the notion of prerequisites.
Stress on the 'continuous evaluation' aspect of the courses.
Conduct Class Committee Meetings twice every semester.
Inform all the concerned faculty and the student group with venue and time, to discuss any issues.
Submit Minutes of the discussion to the HoD.
When a student(s) of your batch, come to you with any concern, understand and guide them appropriately. If required, inform the concerned through proper channel.
Probation students:
When you are informed about students in probation, schedule regular meetings with them to hear their concerns, give possible solutions, and monitor their progress.
Explain these students the implications of being in probation, and guide them on their courses.
Encourage and welcome the new students who have moved from other branches.
Introduce them to the Class Representative.
Make sure they are included in the batch group email ID.
As the semesters progress, students would approach you with their electives options for advice and/or approval.
Note the maximum number of credits a student can take. Impose it strictly!
You need a faculty-advisor CRP login, the IT staff will provide the login credentials.
In the portal for each of the Add/Drop request you are required to Approve/Disapprove.
This is done during the Add/Drop/Withdraw period.
