New to Ropar

• Ropar/Rupnagar (pronounced as ropad) is fifth Divisional Headquarter of Punjab state. Small place, spans across 32miles. It means that everything is reachable within 5-6KMs.
• No Ola, Uber, Meru, Citycabs etc.
• No Swiggy, Zomato, FoodPanda or other food-delivery support. Update, Sept 2019: Swiggy and Zomato have started their operations in Ropar.
• Rupnagar Railway station is here.
• Old bus stand here - Buses to Chandigarh, Shimla and other places can be boarded. New bus stand is here.
• Chip-level laptop service:
  • TechBytes - I found the service person to be good with his craft.
• Groceries and house-hold items:
  • No BigBasket and very limited Amazon Pantry support. Most of the regular goods from Amazon and Flipkart (limited) are delivered.
  • There is a huge market just adjacent to Bela Chowk. Apart from that there are More and EasyDay Supermarkets for all groceries and daily-needs.
  • Reliance SMART has started here.
  • Reliance Trends has been opened, just beside Reliance SMART.
  • Vegetable markets: Tuesday-Friday behind EasyDay. Wednesday-Saturday at Giani Zail Singh market here. Fresh vegetables are available at reasonable price.
  • Old market in Rupnagar.
  • At Chandigarh - Singla General Store, popular for availability of South Indian grocery items.
• Domino's Pizza has recently (Dec, 2018) opened an outlet in Ropar at Bela Chowk (here).
• Subway opened an outlet at Bela Chowk (here).
• Gambhir Traders is a good place for purchase of inners and winter cloths at a wholesale price.
• Banking:
  • There are Rupnagar branches of almost all the well known banks. Quite a few ATMs, easy to find.
• General Medical hospitals:
  • Civil Hospital

  • Dr. Surjit Singh Super Speciality Hospital
  • At Chandigarh - Planet Ayurveda by Dr. Vikram Chauhan.

  • Child Health:
    • A well known pediatrician Dr. S. M. Sardana is available in Ropar. For consultation before 2PM location is here. For consultation in the evening, from 4.30PM to 8.00PM here.
    • Another popular pediatrician in Ropar is Dr. Anil Dewan. His clinic is here.
• Medical stores:
  • There is an entire street lined up with reasonably big medical stores on Lehri Shah Mandir Road.
  • Quite a few small medical stores all around.
• Couple of gated communities - Gilco Valley, Sun Enclave Tower, Sun City
• Plastic and small wooden furniture store here.
• District Collector's office, Mini Secretariat Ropar, Main Post Office
• Archaeological Museum - Indus Valley Civilization
• Ramlila ground: Activity center - Ravan dahan, common place for Diwali crackers shops, etc.
• A very pleasant place for walk, and kids playground is near the canal here. Do try the Malai Kulfi at the Verka store.
