Ropar/Rupnagar (pronounced as ropad) is fifth Divisional Headquarter of Punjab state. Small place, everything is reachable within 5-6KMs.
No Ola, Uber, Meru, Citycabs etc.
No Swiggy, Zomato, FoodPanda or other food-delivery support. Update, Sept 2019: Swiggy and Zomato have started their operations in Ropar.

No BigBasket/Blink-it and very limited Amazon Pantry support. Most of the regular goods from Amazon and Flipkart (limited) are delivered. Update, Mar 2026: Over the past year or so, few Amazon fresh items are being delivered.

There is a huge market just adjacent to Bela Chowk. Apart from that there are More and EasyDay Supermarkets for all groceries and daily-needs. Update, Mar 2026: EasyDay is closed.
Reliance SMART has started here.
Vegetable markets: Tuesday-Friday behind EasyDay. Wednesday-Saturday at Giani Zail Singh market here. Fresh vegetables are available at a reasonable price, very seasonal though.

Gambhir Traders is a good place for purchase of inner and winter cloths at a wholesale price.
Quite a few branded outlets (Barista, Puma, Peter England, Pepe Jeans, Jockey, etc) have opened at Ropar City Center (not official name).
Zudio outlet has opened here.
Reliance Trends has been opened, just beside Reliance SMART.
Banking:
There are Rupnagar branches of almost all the well known banks. Quite a few ATMs, easy to find.

Child Health:
A well known pediatrician Dr. S. M. Sardana is available in Ropar. For consultation before 2PM location is here. For consultation in the evening, from 4.30PM to 8.00PM here.

Update, Mar 2026: Chandigarh Children's Hospital has started operations from 2024. Dr. Harsimran is good and kids friendly. But hospital operations and services need to improve a lot.
Medical stores:
There is an entire street lined up with reasonably big medical stores on Lehri Shah Mandir Road.
Quite a few small medical stores all around.

District Collector's office, Mini Secretariat Ropar, Main Post Office (Passport Seva Kendra too).
Archaeological Museum - Indus Valley Civilization and archaeological site. Must visit places that walk through the human history spanning 3500years.
Ramlila ground: Activity center - Ravan dahan, common place for Diwali crackers shops, etc.
A very pleasant place for walk, and kids playground is near the canal here. Do try the Malai Kulfi at the Verka store.
Petrol pumps:
Try to avoid this BP pump.
Two pumps here - HP pump and IndianOil pump (operated by Ropar Jail authorities).
There are quite a few pumps on the way towards Mohali/Chandigarh. And towards Balachaur.
