Not everything interesting needs to become a whole program. Sometimes we want to learn something strange, make something useful, go somewhere interesting, invite someone fascinating to share what they know, or follow an idea just to see where it leads. That’s Off the Map.
You might come to Kaleidoscope to photograph a desert sunset, solve a mystery, make something wonderfully strange, learn alongside a local artist, build something useful, explore somewhere new, cook something together, or discover an interest you never expected to care about.
Off the Map experiences may be a single afternoon or evening, a workshop, an adventure away from Home Base, or a short series when something deserves more time.
Some are designed for teens or adults, some for families, and some are open more broadly to the community. Each experience will clearly tell you who it is for, when it happens, what it costs, and anything you need to know before joining us.
Off the Map changes with the season, the people around us, the questions we're asking, and the interesting opportunities we stumble across. Some ideas may return again and again, while others may happen exactly once..

Museums, studios, gardens, historic places, conservation sites, local businesses, community spaces, and destinations we haven't discovered yet.
Learn From Someone Who Knows Something Worth Sharing
Artists, craftspeople, naturalists, musicians, gardeners, builders, community members, and other people willing to share what they know.
