For this assignment I completed a training on Cybersecurity. This training taught me a lot about the protection of yourself and your data is very important in the digital realm. Then I was tasked to find examples of threats on cybersecurity in the news, listed below. As well as evaluating the sources which is shown below the sources themselves.
An Australian health insurance company was hacked and their patient data was exposed to the public. The exposed data identified individuals who have had abortions, issues with mental health, and addiction. The data was released on a dark web forum, the hackers have been linked to Russian "Cybercriminals". This was a Ransomware attack which could have been prevented through better antivirus/Malware protection and updates.
The Baltimore Sun's Twitter account was hacked on Monday, November 7th 2022. The hacker then posted "a slew of vulgagr messages". The company then stepped forward and relased a statement apologizing for the offensive statements while also stating that the individual's access has been removed from their account. The Sun did not explicitly state how their account was comprimized however, a strong password and keeping up with updates can help deter hacking.

Considered accurate, included quotes from Police Commissioner andstatements from the Insurer
The article is intended to increase awareness to the impacts of these Ransomware attacks
All links were accessible, several linked throughout the article, they were embeded within the text of the article

Considered accurate with quotes from the Sun regarding the hacking and offensive tweets
It is a short article and there are a lot of ads on the site but written in a professional tone
There is one one link throughout the article which just informed the audience about the owner of the Sun's publisher which is not that relavant to the story
This certificate required me to learn about Cybersecurity and how I can protect myself and my data when interacting with a device.
This lesson pushed me to think about privacy. One thing that I think really spoke to me is the disscusion about if you have nothing to hide then you should have no issue having no privacy. But through researching the Austrailian health care system leaking abortion and mental health information, it made me realize that having privacy can be for safety and not strictly for things you are embarassed about. The training also taught me a bunch about how I can prevent, respond, and understand cybersecurity threats. The most interesting thing I learned about was that Ransomware meant that there is a literal ransom involved, despite hearing about ransomware so often because of BCPS system having some attacks it never clicked that the meaning was so literal. Overall, I took away a lot from this lesson and I can apply a lot of this to my own digital interactions now and in the future as well.
