The feedback I received from my supervisor during my previous teaching placement provides strong evidence of my dedication to teaching and my continuous professional growth within the Professional Engagement domain, as outlined in the AITSL teacher standards. The feedback emphasises my commitment to ongoing improvement through self-reflection, lesson evaluations, and observing experienced teachers, which aligns with the expectations of Standard 6 and Standard 7 of APST.
However, to further enhance my teaching practice and fully align with Standard 6 and Standard 7, there are specific areas I need to focus on. The feedback advises me to incorporate more differentiation techniques into my lesson plans to cater to the diverse learning needs of my students. Developing and implementing effective strategies to manage distracted students in the classroom is crucial for maintaining a focused and conducive learning environment. At the same time, building my confidence, especially in voice projection and presence, is essential for engaging students effectively.
To address these areas, I will prioritise continuous professional learning and improvement by reflecting on my teaching practices regularly. Seeking constructive discussions with colleagues and involving them in developing my lesson plans will contribute to my professional learning, as it fosters a deeper awareness of my strengths and areas for growth (Ozogul, Olina & Sullivan, 2008). Emphasising effective communication with parents/carers and involving them in their child's learning journey will strengthen the partnership between home and school, enabling us to collaboratively address any behavioural challenges (Fettig et al., 2013).
Overall, the supervisor's feedback highlights my progress in various aspects of professional engagement as per the AITSL teacher standards. It demonstrates my commitment to enhancing my pedagogical practices, adapting to student needs, and actively engaging in continuous professional learning to elevate my teaching skills and create a positive learning environment for my students.
