Returned to Papakura Intermediate School January 2021 as the STEAMM Technology/Specialist Teacher - also took on two leadership roles Impact Coach for Tech Team (5) and Identity, Language & Culture Strategy Team Lead (20).
Discovered some whānau who were here in Papakura from Te Kūiti.
Identity, Language & Cultures is the schools initiative to have Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga recognised and celebrated while also recognising and celebrating each and every culture of our students and staff.
This included normalising te reo Maori, mihimihi, karakia and waiata into classes and staff hui. Celebrating language weeks and taking on the Dr Ann Milne's auditing white spaces.
Would like to acknowledge here the work of my predecessor Moana Turner who had set up a lot of the structures and templates for normalising te reo Māori, mihimihi and celebrating language weeks. Ngā mihi mō tōu mahi e hoa.
A lot of our work was to continue and expand on what was already there. We included workshops and facilitating where staff could go to if they wanted to formalise their learning of te reo Maori. This included talking with staff, where they were at, what they wanted and possible programs that could fit them. We had about 5 out of 20 staff look at taking on programs.
Auckland Museum, Auckland Art Gallery & Whau Cafe - all capturing stories of a people, of the past and now. Team bonding and exploring concepts we could take on for Term 1.
