A local delicacy took over the region’s palette
In the heart of Biñan, Laguna, where the bustling streets echo with the rhythm of daily life, lies a culinary gem that captivates both locals and tourists alike: Puto Biñan.
This fluffy, subtly sweet rice cake has paved its way to the palette of Filipinos, making it a popular dessert, pasalubong, and accompaniment to a number of savory dishes such as dinuguan (a pork blood stew).
Its versatility made every region adapt and experiment with multiple flavors, textures, and appearances. But nothing beats the taste of classic!

Unlike traditional puto, this Biñan favorite is served on a large, round platter that can feed up to five people or more. Hence, it is perfect for salu-salo or gatherings, bridging people to a seat closer together.
In addition, one look at its oozing, cheesy exterior makes any mouth water with excitement. It is usually topped with a generous amount of grated cheese, a shredded salted egg, and condensed milk. This contrast of salty toppings and sweet rice dough makes every bite absolutely irresistible.
Lastly, the very distinction can be seen in the rice itself. The uniqueness of its taste and texture is because it is completely made up of rice flour, or galapong. This is well received by the community making Puto Biñan, the region’s one and only.
As a tribute to the said culinary gem, Puto Biñan is honored with the town’s agricultural heritage during Binan’s Puto Latik Festival, celebrated every 15th of May.
