Competency- based grading introduces a system of grade that most are/were not used to. Competency-based education (CBE) incorporates six axioms: 1) Explicit learning outcomes with respect to the required skills and concomitant proficiency (standards for assessment. 2) A flexible time frame to master these skills. 3) A variety of instructional activities to facilitate learning. 4) Criterion-referenced testing of the required outcomes. 5) Certification based demonstrated learning outcome. 6) Adaptable programs to ensure optimum learner guidance.
In this document I have reflected on my current district's work with curriculum, instruction, assessments. I viewed the data through the lens of a school principal performing as a instructional leader.
As school educations we look at our school's achievement status, but do not necessarily understand all of the data that goes into forming that status . For this paper I was able to dig deeper into my district's ESSA status, as well as, the subgroups that make up the district.
To help teachers and administrators know what standards need to be taught and how, they can unwrap the standards together. This work can also be done in PLCs so there's an understanding of vertical and horizontal alignment.
