EcoHouse has recently met with Parkhurst and Facilities regarding the drastic increase of single use plastics on campus through the pademic. Both are willing to collaborate and find better options for our waste. Some of our current projects include communicating the facts of the situation to our campus community, creating awarness around the topic of single use plastics, and working to get more recycling bins around campus. Stay tuned as we seek long term options to the plastic problem and help us work to kick single use plastics off campus!
In the Fall 2019 semester, we built a large compost bin out of upcycled wooden pallets. Since then, we have been taking care of our compost in the hopes of eventually opening it fully to the campus community.
We have received multiple offers from the Juniata and Huntingdon communities for collaborations on a variety of projects. Check out our events page for more details!
In the Spring 2020 semester, we created a strategic plan in order to provide a backbone for the future of the collective. This research project was an independent study that was presented at [virtual] Liberal Arts Symposium on May 6, 2020. You can read the plan here.

When we first started in the fall of 2018, we knew that to gain attention and relevance we would need a strong presence on social media. We quickly established accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. (The website idea came later, in the fall of 2019.) We now use our platforms to update the community on our projects, events, and shenanigans. Follow us!
September 20, 2019 was the Global Climate Strike, for which people around the world walked out of school and work to show support for climate action. We decided that we needed to be a part of it, so at 1:00pm we encouraged the student body to walk out of class to the quad to engage in EcoHouse-led discussions about climate change and environmental justice.
Over the past 4 years, we have collaborated with other clubs and departments on campus to host events and raise awareness. Clubs we have partnered with to date: Juniata Environmental Coalition, Juniata Climate Advocates, Yoga Club, Hillel, and the Center for International Education. In the future, we plan to continue working with those organizations and more!
