ALSC Competencies for Librarians Serving Children in Libraries: Commitment to Client Group; Programming Skills
Course: LIS 60625 Engaging Young Children and Families
This STE(A)M-focused storytime was created for LIS 60625 Engaging Young Children and Families using the five concepts of early literacy: read, write, talk, sing, and play. Building early literacy is shown to help children learn to read and prepares them for kindergarten. My goal for this project was to build an inclusive storytime that incorporated the five concepts of early literacy while fostering connections with science and nature. I also wanted to use the nature theme as a platform for talking about emotions, building motor skills through play, recognizing all kinds of families, and using technology in a fun and educational way.
