Dispersed Urban Orchard

Fruit trees are growing on two green spaces in Johnstown — Bailis Downs and Millbrook — planted by residents in January 2022 as part of Wild About Navan's push to bring pollinator-friendly fruit trees back into public spaces across the neighbourhood. 

Between Bailis Downs, Millbrook, and the trees residents have planted in their own gardens over the years, Johnstown's apple trees are scattered and undocumented — nobody has a full picture of what's growing where, or which varieties are near enough to each other to cross-pollinate. That's exactly the gap our Apple Tree Mapping project is closing: a resident-built map of every apple tree in the area, so we can match up pollination groups, spot gaps, and grow a genuine Community Orchard out of what's already here.
