Plastic Election Poster Free Zone

Initiated 2019

2024/25

We've requested that candidates comply with our request to avoid plastic pollution and not erect election posters for the June 2024 local council elections or the 2025 General Election.

We have suggested to Old Johnstown Village Tidy Towns Group to support and include their area as illustrated in our 2019 zone.

2019/20

Meath County Council declared a Climate Emergency in 2019. We took the opportunity to write to all Navan County Council candidates asking them to protect the environment by not hanging plastic election posters in Johnstown.

We declared Johnstown as a plastic election poster-free zone in 2019 and following its success, we repeated the initiative in 2020 for the Meath West General Election.

We estimate over 100 plastic posters have been avoided in Johnstown.
