Self-funded, installation planned for autumn 2026
We're installing a professional-grade weather station at the Johnstown Education Campus, giving the whole community free, live access to hyper-local weather data — 24/7, online.
Local weather data, not generic forecasts. It'll help answer real questions:
The school run — Is it too wet to walk, or just a passing shower?
Heating — When's the actual right time to switch it on or off?
Solar and wind — Does Johnstown get enough sun for solar panels, or wind for a turbine, to make sense on your own home?
Gardening — When's the real first and last frost? Is your garden soggy from rainfall or a drainage problem? When should water butts go up before a dry spell?
Storm water — Track how much rain runoff we get and where it goes.
Wind chill — See exactly how much colder it really feels.
Whether you are a student learning about data in the classroom, a parent planning the morning commute, or a resident looking to lead a more sustainable life, this weather station is for you. The information will be displayed online with free access.

This project didn't receive Climate Action Fund 2025 support, so Johnstown Tidy Towns is proposing to fund this ourselves.
