Jazz is a uniquely American contemporary music style drawing influences from a variety of cultures and genres. Jazz music is characterized by performer improvisation, syncopation and irregular rhythms. A variety of styles are included underneath the Jazz umbrella, including Swing, Funk, Latin, Be-Bop, Blues, and Rock.
All JTL Band students are welcome to audition and participate in jazz band. The primary jazz ensemble at JTL is a big band. Big Bands include a full horn section, which is made up of trumpets, trombones, saxophones and a rhythm section. Other instruments are welcome to participate in the JTL Jazz Bands!
On May 28th, all JTL Jazz Band students performed at the final performance of the year. This performance included music from the 2nd half of the year, and featured two small groups, Lab Band, and the Jazz Ensemble. The evening concluded on a combined performance of a JTL favorite, Poco Loco by Carl Strommen. It was a wonderful night to celebrate our JTL Jazz Band students!
Thank you to everyone that donated food and drinks to our end of year potluck!
On Wednesday, March 18th, our Jazz Band students took a field trip to NYC to watch Aladdin the Musical. They also explored Bryant Park, Times Square, and ate dinner at Hard Rock Cafe. Thank you to all the students and chaperones for an awesome day in the city!
Jazz Band Remind info will be shared out in September after all auditions are completed!
