I attended univesity with the hopes of become a doctor but found that nursing was my calling. I admired the aspects of having the knowledge to heal people, but also the intrinsic value of helping people emotionally, mentally and spiritually as well. This paved the path for the way I study, the way I organize myself and the way I'm passionate about what I'm doing. A few years into university, I knew I wasn't as driven for becoming a doctor. When I came to Seneca, it made me even more sure that this is where I'm supposed to be.
This job has given me an abundant of tools and practises that I will carry with me in my nursing career. It is part of the reason why I wanted to be a nurse and realized that this was the path I wanted to be on. Being able to provide support for those strengthens my values and shows me that I can make a difference as a nurse. I am not restricted to the science side of care, but the artistic one as well. I assist individuals with everyday tasks and can provide medication cue and reminders as well. As seen in my philosophy of nursing, my job is more than just the physical well being of clients. It is about being present on that emotional level so they can trust you and view you as part as their team, even at home. Being in this job allows me to hold onto that philosophy and encourages me to keep going.
This is a staple for the beginning of my values as this job as a cashier supervisor has shaped the way I handle conflicts. Nursing requires immense patience as there are different personalities that you encounter. Having so many experiences that required my values, helped me fine tune them. I've had a lot of practice within customer service that has given me exposure to many situations that I have used my philosophy of kindess. In nursing, this is essential to have.
