To apply to the flight academy, you need to be 17 on or before July 1st of the upcoming year. For example, if you are currently in the 2024-25 academic school year, you need to be 17 before July 1st of 2025.
Next, you need to have at least a GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale). You need to maintain a 3.0 GPA even after being accepted all the way up until you enroll in the university you are matched with over the summer
Application Weight:
The Flight Academy application has a very specific weighting process it uses to determine who the board selects. The five sections of the application are as follows: the Aviation Qualification Test (AQT), JROTC Senior Aerospace Science Instructor (SASI) endorsements, Physical Fitness, Leadership/Extracurricular, and Aviation Experience. The weighting of each section is as follows:
AQT Test - 45%
JROTC SASI Endorsement - 20%
Physical Fitness - 10%
(minimum score of 75 needed, see Physical Fitness)
Leadership/Extracurricular - 10%
Aviation Experience - 10%
School Counselor Endorsement - 5%
