The JPLG Muscle Physiology Lab is dedicated in promotting equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in all aspects of research. We are fully committed to promote scientific innovation, rewarding collaboration, and social responsibility for a new generation of scientists in a truly inclusive research environment. In my lab, we prioritize a philosophy of sharing, mutual support, and collective success over competition.

Curent lab members

Graduate Students

Wanda Dupebe

PhD student in Medical Biology (Primary Supervisor: JP Leduc-Gaudet)

Research interests: Passionate about bioinformatics, Wanda is dedicated to enhancing her expertise using omics approaches, such as RNA-seq and single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis in biomedical research.

Main Interests Outside the Lab: Beyond research, Wanda enjoys good food and loves sports, drawing, and music.

Email: wanda.dupebe@uqtr.ca

Pascale Delisle

M.Sc. student in Medical Biology (Primary Supervisor: JP Leduc-Gaudet)

Email:pascale.delisle@uqtr.ca

Research interest: After completing her final internship in my lab, Pascale decided to pursue a Master’s degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology in the JPLG Muscle Physiology Lab at UQTR. Her research will focus on investigating the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Main interest outside the lab: Outside the lab, Pascale enjoys cooking, baking, travelling and figure skating.

Anthony Capobianco

M.Sc. student in Medical Biology (Primary Supervisor: JP Leduc-Gaudet; Co-supervisor: Geneviève Pépin)

Email: anthony.capobianco@uqtr.ca

Research interest: Anthony completed his Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology at UQTR, during which he was awarded an NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA) in 2024. This scholarship allowed him to join the JPLG Muscle Physiology Lab, where he gained valuable experience studying signaling pathways involved in mammalian diseases. He is now pursuing a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at UQTR (2025–2027), focusing on the regulation of autophagy and inflammation in muscle diseases.

Main interests outside the lab: Anthony enjoys cooking and discovering new flavors, as well as staying physically active through sports. He also appreciates outdoor activities and spending time in nature.

Krystel Desjardins

M.Sc. student in Physical Activity Sciences at UQAM (Primary Supervisor:Gilles Gouspillou; Co-Supervised by JP Leduc-Gaudet)

Research interest: Krystel primarily works on characterizing the role of Bcl6, a transcription factor involved in muscle adaptation and metabolism. She has expertise in both rodent and human studies and is actively involved in a human project investigating the effects of Urolithin A, a compound with potential benefits for mitochondrial function and muscle health.

Main interests outside the lab: Outside the lab, she enjoys spending time with her cat, staying active and enjoying a good beer. Krystel is also a certified dental hygienist, showcasing her diverse interests and expertise beyond research.

Email: desjardins.krystel@courrier.uqam.ca

Emmanuelle Stella Kana Tsapi

M.Sc. student Biomedical Sciences Program at UQTR (Primary Supervisor: Carlos Reyes-Moreno; Co-Supervised by JP Leduc-Gaudet)

Research interest: Passionate about reproductive science, she dedicates her research to exploring the complex relationship between energy homeostasis and successful embryo implantation. Her work specifically focuses on the role of the cytokine Oncostatin M (OSM) in regulating glucose metabolism in endometrial stromal and decidual cells. She aims to understand how low glucose conditions (hypoglycemia) influence pregnancy outcomes, particularly during the early stages of embryo development. By investigating these mechanisms, she hopes to provide new insights into how metabolic disruptions can impact reproductive health.

Main interests outside the lab: Off-campus, Emmanuelle have a deep passion for meditation and cooking, she enjoy traveling and like watching science fiction films !

Undergraduate students

Adrien Hevey 2025-present: Undergraduate intern in Medical Biology (BLM1006) – Winter 2025

Email: adrien.hevey@uqtr.ca

Research interest: Adrien is a senior undergraduate student in medical biology at the UQTR. Passionate about physiology and how the human body functions, he is particularly fascinated by skeletal muscle biology. During his final internship, Adrien is investigating the effects of DEPP1 overexpression in the skeletal muscle of mice. His work involves using a variety of molecular and physiological techniques, including immunostaining, western blotting, and in vivo muscle contractility testing, to understand how Depp1 influences muscle function.

Main interests outside the lab: Adrien likes to run and to do outside activities. He also likes to discover new things and live adventures!

Research interest: Zachary is a second year student in Medical biology at UQTR.  He has conducted research assessing myofiber atrophy and typology using immunohistochemical staining in various disease conditions. Passionate about science, Zachary is particularly interested in exploring molecular mechanisms that regulate skeletal muscle integrity.

Main Interests aside from Academia: Outside the lab, Zachary enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, snowboarding, camping with friends, and kayaking.

Maïmouna Gueye  (Undergraduate Summer student, 2024) / étudiante de premier cycle en stage en biologie médicale (BLM1006) - Hiver 2025

Pascale Delisle 2025-present: Undergraduate intern in Medical Biology (BLM1006) – Winter 2025

Justine Deshaies (Undergraduate Summer student, 2024)

Suzanne Marie-Pierre Ina Lamizana (Undergraduate Summer student, 2024) / étudiante de premier cycle en stage en biologie médicale (BLM1006) - Été 2024
