Lab News 🧫 – Summer 2025
We are very pleased to welcome Sharon Leung to our lab this week at UQTR, where she gave an excellent seminar entitled:
“The Role of Peroxisomes in Immunity and Malnutrition”
A great opportunity to learn and exchange on peroxisome biology and its implications for health!
We are also very happy to collaborate with the team of Dr. Peter Kim and Dr. Robert Bandsma (SickKids Research Institute, Toronto).
Interuniversity Collaboration 🤝
We are very pleased to welcome Madison Garibotti, M.Sc., PhD Candidate at York University, to our lab at UQTR starting in January 2026, thanks to the support of the Collaborative Research Training Awards (CRTA) from the NMD4C (Neuromuscular Disease Network for Canada).
Her project focuses on:
“An evaluation of cardiolipin oxidation using a mitochondrial targeting antioxidant in dystrophin-deficient D2.mdx mouse model.”
This exciting project is conducted in collaboration with Dr. Christopher Perry (York University), with myself as Host Supervisor at UQTR.
Congratulations to Wanda Dupebe for being selected to present a 3-Minute Flash Talk at the 7th Ottawa International Conference on Neuromuscular Disease and Biology, taking place September 11–13, 2025. This is a wonderful recognition of the quality and impact of her research!
We are pleased to announce that our laboratory has been awarded $75,000 from the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) for the project:
“Integrated RNA Sequencing to Understand Skeletal Muscle Atrophy During Bed Rest.”
This support will allow us to deepen our understanding of the molecular mechanisms associated with skeletal muscle atrophy during prolonged bed rest.
Summer 2025 - Two of our lab members, Wanda and Coralie, participated in the Canadian Bioinformatics Workshops held at the IRCM (Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal).
Summer 2025 – Stepping out of the lab: a perfect mix of reflection, teamwork, and fun!
Very pleased to have participated in the NMD4C Basic Research Summer School 2025 at York University and to have given a presentation entitled:
“Histopathological Basis of Muscle in Neuromuscular Diseases (NMD)”
A wonderful event to exchange ideas, learn, and share advances in basic research on neuromuscular diseases.
Summer 2025: Congratulations to Anthony for receiving his NSERC Undergraduate Student Research AwardÂ
April 4, 2025
Congratulations to Adrien Hevey for winning a poster prize at the UQTR Scientific Poster Competition! 🏆 Adrien presented his work on the impact of Depp1 overexpression on peroxisomes and skeletal muscle integrity. This research was conducted as part of his internship in Medical Biology (BLM1006). Bravo Adrien for this well-deserved recognition! Â
Interview where we discuss the genetics of sport performance and the science behind skeletal muscle adaptations in response to exercise with HĂ©lène Laurin on SAVOIR MÉDIA. This interview reflects JPLG Muscle Physiology lab commitment to disseminating scientific knowledge and making complex concepts accessible to a broader audience. Stay tuned for a deep dive into the fascinating interplay between genetics, exercise, and muscle biology!Â
