Shadows of self
Shadows of self
Acrlylic paint on canvas, 180 x 100 cm, 2024
Shadows of self is a set of three paintings which feature my father, sister and mother. This project was an exploration of our perceptions of ourselves and others. These paintings came from my interest in depicting everyone as equals and wanting to explore the similarities I see in people in comparison to the differences. As in this painting, you cannot tell that my sister has a disability and is in a wheelchair, I wanted to experiment with stripping away information and looking at how we portray each other in various lights depending on the characteristics of each person in society.
