My name is Jos Rendall and I am a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Scotland.
My work centres the body, the patterns, systems and sensations within us. Stemming from my experience with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, I explore disability and how I can highlight the lives of people with disabilities, specifically hidden disabilities. I use my artistic practice as a form of art therapy, working through pain and the struggles I face with my condition in an attempt to convey to non-disabled people different ways of being in todays society and the issues carried with this.
Predominantly using sculpture, painting and drawing, I explore the intersection of nature, physiology, biology, medicine and the human experience. I use these materials to recreate the body and its functions through texture, mark making, distortions and illusions, as I love the interactive and tactile nature of art and enjoy finding ways to bring my body and viewers bodies into the work. The physicality of these materials and my practice allows me to incorporate a performance and physical therapy aspect into my work in an attempt to connect my disability within art.
