LEVEL DESIGNER | 3D ARTIST | SOUND DESIGNER
Rubber Tire Soft is a top‑down minimal stealth game, realized in Unreal Engine 5, where players use different tools to sneak past enemies and reach the end of each level.
I started this project with a friend and colleague as a monthly challenge, and we later decided to expand it and publish it. In the game, the player must complete 8 levels by reaching their end, either escaping or eliminating the target, in order to face the final boss.
It took about two months to complete the game, and during development I focused mainly on level design. I went through extensive concepting, playtesting, and iteration to craft levels with the desired pacing and challenge, and I made sure not to create a single obvious solution, allowing players to experiment and find their own preferred strategies. I also handled the tutorialization of the mechanics, integrating it naturally into the level design.
We also wanted the game to include secrets and collectibles, so I hid them throughout the levels, some more obvious and some more subtle, to add an extra layer of discovery and surprise.
I personally created all the game assets in Blender, using the project as an opportunity to revisit a tool I had only used many years ago, purely for curiosity and experimentation.
Finally, I also took care of the SFX to enhance player feedback and the game’s overall juiciness. I created the sounds using software such as jsfxr, as well as my guitar, which I used to play iconic videogame riffs that reward players when they find a collectible.
The game took a lot of inspiration from "Metal Gear" and "Metal Gear Solid", and its name is actually a parody of them. Because of that, the first collectible needed to be an homage, but can you spot and recognize all the others?
