Summary

As Reviews Editor, it is my job to select new books to be reviewed based on issue theme or other organizing method and to solicit reviews from a select pool of reviewers. After sending the books and coaching reviewers through the methods, it is also my responsibility to copy edit the received reviews and prepare them for publication. Additionally, it is my responsibility to set the tone and agenda for the reviews sections through curated content, thematic review, and editorials explaining directions and other relevant information regarding the reviews section of the journal (see Scholarship section below for essays and editorials relating to this position).

    • Conduct the review of Faculty Merit and Annual Review Forms (FMARFs) to ensure fairness and adherence to the processes

    • Advise the Dean of Libraries regarding the processes and policies of the review procedures

  • Collection Development Council, SOCSCI Collaborative Representative, UMD Libraries, 2017-2018 And 2021-2022

    • Responsible for communicating with the social science collection librarians and organizing critical collections work including database and collection reviews.

    • Collaborate with representatives from the other subject groups to develop strategies and plans for collection management initiatives set by the collections leadership.

  • Open Access Monographs Hot Team, 2021

    • Investigate scholarly open access imprints and advise on a three-tiered work plan accounting for subject librarian selections, acquisitions ingesting, and technical services cataloging and metadata markups to ease use and findability for users

  • Web Advisory Committee, Teaching and Learning Services representative, UMD Libraries, summer 2019-2020 (committee disbanded).

    • represented the Teaching and Learning unit’s needs on this committee looking into information pathways and content audits.

  • Libi Advisory Team, UMD Libraries, Chair May 2017-May 2018, member fall 2016 –spring 2017

    • led the effort to develop a new intranet space for the libraries

    • My duties included: project management and coordination, scheduling of members, maintaining records of the group, communicating with other committees, usability and functionality testing, scheduling beta-stage testing, and producing the final project

  • Staff Advisory Committee, elected faculty representative, UMD Libraries, June 2018- June 2020

    • In this group I served as a faculty liaison with responsibilities for bringing staff concerns to the library’s shared governance body.

  • Collection Strategies Hot Team, member, UMD Libraries, July 2018-

    • On this committee it was our goal to help the outreach efforts for new collection strategies and directions. My major contribution has been in research, literature review, and talking points development.

  • UMD Libraries Diversity Advisory Committee, Dean appointed member, UMD Libraries, December 2017 – 2019

    • Dean’s charge for this group involves developing programming and other methods of awareness for issues of diversity and inclusion in the libraries

    • My contribution has been through involvement in the DAC’s discussions and programming on the Thriving Workplace Initiative, development of programming, and participation in the discussions and progression of the group’s goals.

  • Database Review Rubric Hot Team (DRRT), member, UMD Libraries, December 2017 –

    • This group’s main charge was to develop a qualitative component to the collection development and retention processes for subject librarians

    • My major contribution was in adding multidimensional depth and social science practices (coding) to the project and suggesting many of the format and question-types used.

    • Additionally, I was first-author on a publication stemming from this project.

    • Worked with the committee to develop an assessment calendar and methodology for campus reporting

    • Responsible for the coordination with the humanities and social sciences librarians (HSSL) to ensure timely responses necessary from the group and adherence to deadlines

    • Worked with the committee to evaluate the usefulness of the database indexing tools

    • Worked with the committee to continue to evaluation process of our database indexing and to look for new solutions to exiting usability and issues

    • Worked on a small team to produce a report for Collection Services management that detailed the library’s current and potential use of digital archiving and storage for owned digital collections

    • Assisted in the conference preparations for the USMAI UX UnConference in April 2017

    • participated in the monthly meeting and contributed to the annual work of the committee including assisting with work plans, mission and vision changes, and other similar committee duties
