Within the E-IFTA 2020 Contemporary Vocals Class, students were guided through safe, legal, and ethical practices related to digital tools and the protection of intellectual rights and property under professional mentorship. Utilizing Flip Grid as part of the creative commons, the class maintained a balance between engaging student interactions and fostering a positive environment. The course, designed for the study of a new genre, incorporated video lessons covering genre history, vocal pedagogy, and performance tips. Supplementary group lessons and office hours were provided to address individual concerns throughout the duration of the course.
The 21-22 school year proved challenging due to hybrid learning, student readjustments to in-person schooling, and social pressures. Additionally, the Fine Arts Department imposed restrictions on in-person concerts for elementary communities. To address this, we strengthened the Westlawn digital community, emphasizing digital literacy through a talent show. While the hybrid year had fewer participants, there was a noticeable improvement in digital skills and video quality from the first to the second year. Videos were submitted via Google Form, allowing for proper screening. The event, hosted on Zoom, garnered positive interactions, creating an encouraging virtual environment for students and families.

These performances, compiled from diverse video submissions using various programs such as iPad software, phone videos, PC software, and pre-rendered videos, offer a nostalgic glimpse into the diverse personalities of our participants. The final productions, edited in iMovie with intros and transitions created using Viddyoze, also feature image enhancements through Adobe. The Spring Concert, additionally, pays tribute to a teacher battling cancer at the time, making for a meaningful and family-oriented viewing experience.
