Paddy Young

Patrick James Young was born in Newcastle on November 7, 1954, and became the first jockey to win the Crown Plus Two Apprentice Championship two years in succession (1975-76).

He was apprenticed to Peter Robinson, and rode his first winner, Campari, at Newmarket on August 7, 1971.

He once rode four winners in a day at Carlisle (1977) and, in 1981, won both the Chester Cup and Royal Ascot's Queen Alexandra Stakes on Donegal Prince.

Paddy became a familiar face abroad. He won the Indian Guineas and had a dream start in Hong Kong when winning on his first ride there in September 1983.

His last mention in sporting records came in February 1985 when he finished third on Cash in the Hong Kong Derby at Shatin.

Paddy's brother, Stuart, was also a jockey with limited success.
