Frank Zeal

Article by Alan Trout

Apprentice jockey Frank Zeal had a few rides without success in 1922 and 1923. He was apprenticed to John Davidson, who trained at Burbage, in Wiltshire.

Frank’s first ride in public was on May 9, 1922 when finishing fourth of seven on Campbell in a race simply called A Sweepstake on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile course, the race being won by Bertie Lynch on Jacquot.

Frank kept persevering until near the end of the 1923 season. He was last seen in action on October 24, when fourth of 14 on a two-year-old filly named Plonk in the Twyford Selling Nursery Handicap at Newbury.
