Patrick Igoe

(c1837 - 1872)

Born in Ireland circa 1837, Patrick Igoe started out on the Flat before becoming a leading jumps jockey, gaining his biggest victory on Creole in the County Louth Handicap Chase at Mullacurry in 1867.

The Igoe family trained for many years on the Curragh and often campaigned their horses in England. Patrick rode in three Grand Nationals, failing to complete on Little Bab in 1864 and The Dwarf in 1865 but finishing sixth on Resolver in 1867, the race being won that year by Cortolvin.

Patrick Igoe died in Dublin in January 1872, aged around 34. His brother John had a long career as both a jockey and trainer. He is believed to have died in 1900, aged 65.
