The Parent Action Coalition (PAC) attended the February 2, 2026 Jacksonville North Pulaski School District (JNPSD) Board Meeting to monitor district actions, advocate for families, and keep the community informed. Below is a summary of key items discussed and approved.
PAC presented a structured proposal outlining how a Parent Oversight Committee could improve transparency, communication, and consistency in addressing parent concerns. The proposed framework reflects best practices and community-centered solutions designed to strengthen trust and accountability.
PAC formally requested that the board consider offering a hybrid public comment option (both in-person and virtual) at future meetings. Research shared shows that hybrid access increases participation for working parents, caregivers, individuals with disabilities, and families facing transportation or scheduling barriers.
PAC invited board members and the public to attend the upcoming PAC Community Meeting on February 28 at 3:00 PM, providing families a space for collaborative dialogue around district priorities and parent engagement.
District leadership shared updates on student leadership initiatives and upcoming homecoming events. During the Jacksonville High School presentation, two senior students spoke, expressing appreciation for recent changes, including:
The reimplementation of student council
Expanded college credit opportunities for high school students
Administrators also reported ATLAS testing results, noting growth in three academic areas.
Jacksonville High School will host the Special Olympics. Community participation and support were encouraged.
The district presented an updated Child Protection Manual, including a newly developed condensed, parent-friendly version. A Spanish translation is currently in progress.
The board reviewed eight uncontested discipline cases, all of which were approved without discussion.
The proposed academic calendar for the 2025–2026 school year was presented, outlining instructional days, breaks, and professional development dates.
A new grant was announced to provide year-round, on-campus mental health therapists for students in grades 6–12.
Key details include:
Therapists available throughout the year
Training provided by the partnering company
Results-driven incentives tied to student outcomes
Implementation timing will be determined by individual principals.
Principal Weems plans to implement immediately
Dr. Biggs plans to begin implementation during the 2026–2027 school year
Board members will complete required state-mandated training as scheduled.
Future Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on a student-off day, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, to increase accessibility for families. Virtual options such as Zoom were not discussed but may further improve participation.
The board approved updated Crisis and Response Manuals, formalizing districtwide emergency and critical incident procedures. These updates align with items previously included in PAC’s community demands.
Manuals will go live tomorrow
Parents will receive a version specifically designed for families
The district will add new website links to improve access to policies and parent resources. A Spanish version will be available soon.
The board approved updates to the teacher longevity pay schedule, ensuring educators continue to receive annual increases beyond year 28 and do not “bottom out” late in their careers.
The Parent Action Coalition remains committed to transparency, collaboration, and meaningful parent engagement. Families are encouraged to attend board meetings, review posted materials, and participate in upcoming PAC events.
