Digital Art
Students learn to create works of art using digital tools as their medium. Students will learn to draw and paint using computer software. As artists they will still look at the Elements of Art and Principles of Design to evaluate their own works. Students will also learn photo editing and manipulation as part of the course work. Students create landscapes, logos, cartoons, portraits, memes and product designs throughout the year's projects.
Animation
Students learn to create works of animation using digital tools as their medium. Students will learn to draw and animate using computer software. Students study the principles of animation and how to apply them to their work. Students create character animation, special effects, logos, motion graphics, and production assets throughout the year's projects. Students will also learn about incorporating sound into their finished work.

DIGITAL ART & DESIGN 1
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 Credit one
Use technology to think creatively, solve visual problems, and create personally expressive, original artworks related to the theme of a sense of place. Develop expertise in the use of computers, scanners, and digital cameras for artmaking. Use Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Animate, 3-D and video software for motion graphics/animation, graphic design, and digital imaging. Make interdisciplinary connections through study of artists, designers, and events in cultural, historical, and contemporary frameworks. Learn to address ethical issues concerning computer generated imagery. No prior computer experience is required.
ANIMATION
Grades 10, 11, 12 Credit one
Prerequisite Digital Art & Design 1
Learn to use 2-D and 3-D computer software to create animation. Create personally expressive animations and communicate visually in effective ways through the use of modeling, story and character development, and lifelike motion. Become familiar with animation related careers such as game design, animation, film and television special effects.
DIGITAL ART & DESIGN 2
Grades 10, 11, 12 Credit one
Prerequisite Digital Art & Design 1
Expand knowledge in the application of computer hardware and software to create personally expressive, original art related to the theme of perceptions of self. Solve complex visual problems within the areas of multimedia presentations, motion graphics/animation, graphic design, and digital imaging using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Animate, 3-D and video software. Make interdisciplinary connections through study of artists, designers, and events in cultural, historical, and contemporary frameworks. Prepare a final required portfolio for evaluation.
DIGITAL ART & DESIGN 3
Grades 11, 12 Credit one
Prerequisite Digital Art & Design 2
Expand knowledge and ability in the application of hardware and software to create personally expressive, original art in response to social and contemporary issues. Create visual solutions using a variety of media, including motion graphics/animation, graphic design, game development, web design and print design. Make interdisciplinary connections through study of artists, designers, and events in cultural, historical, and contemporary frameworks. A final portfolio or demo reel is required for evaluation.
DIGITAL ART & DESIGN 4: PORTFOLIO PREPARATION
Grades 12 Credit one
Prerequisite Digital Art & Design 3
Engage in advanced study and application of computer graphics while developing the attitude and self-discipline of a working artist. Integrate advanced knowledge of software with creative thinking skills and interdisciplinary connections to produce a portfolio and digital exhibition of original artworks that show evidence of expressive content, quality, breadth of experience, and sustained investigation.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT 2-D ART AND DESIGN- Computer Graphics focus
Grades 11, 12 Credit one/weighted +1.0
Prerequisite Studio Art and Design 1 and 2 or permission of the instructor
This course is designed for highly motivated, advanced art students who have demonstrated a serious interest in the study of art. Ideally suited for students who work well independently, the course will focus on the preparation of a two-dimensional design portfolio of artworks that exhibit quality, sustained investigation, and breadth of experience in the formal, technical, and expressive means of an artist. The two-dimensional portfolio may include, but is not limited to, forms of artwork in graphic design, typography, digital imaging, photography, collage, fabric design, weaving, illustration, painting, and printmaking. Students will submit two-dimensional portfolios based on objectives that reflect the format and requirements established by the College Board for Advanced Placement 2D Art and Design. Students who complete this course are encouraged to submit the associated Advanced Placement portfolio and may earn college credit if a qualifying score is achieved.
Q: What Programs do we use?
A: We use Adobe Creative Cloud in the lab, this includes Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, Animate, Indesign and Illustrator. Students are encouraged to experiment with programs they have access to at home as well. Any program a student has access to may be used to complete projects.
Q: Do we have access to digital drawing tablets?
A: Yes, in the lab each student has their own Wacom tablet for use at any time. In the Virtual setting students were issued Xp-Pen Star G430S tablets to use and keep.
Q: Once I take Digital Art 1 can I take Animation or Digital Art 2?
A: You can take either or Both. Animation can be taken anytime after Digital 1 has been completed. Students who take Animation can then move on to Digital Art 3 the following year.
