The Chung Do Kwan

The 5 Kwans were the founding Martial Arts schools in Korea that helped create the Kukkiwon in 1972. Many people prefer a Kwan Dan certificate compared to a Kukkiwon certificate as the Kwans predate the Kukkiwon and have a direct origin and lineage to the founding and creation of Taekwondo as we know it today. The Chung Do Kwan (Blue Wave School 靑濤館) name was first used by Grandmaster Won Kuk Lee, who studied Shotokan Karate under its founder O'Sensei Gichin Funakoshi in Japan, where he earned a 4th Dan. The Chung Do Kwan was the first Kwan to open in Korea.
