Jing Chen is a renowned researcher in the area of cancer metabolism. He has a long-term interest in elucidating the signaling links between metabolism and cancer for a better understanding of cancer metabolism and improved clinical outcomes. His recent research focuses on how diet/nutrients affect anti-tumor immunity, i.e., the immune system’s responses against tumorigenesis, tumor growth, and metastasis. The hypothesis is that the circulating “blood chemicals” including diet-derived nutrients have a vital, and specific, influence on anti-tumor immunity; uncovering the relevant blood chemicals and underlying mechanisms will provide the foundation for new clinical treatments to control tumor growth and eliminate tumor invasion and metastasis. Chen has received numerous awards and his discoveries have been published in Nature, Nature Cell Biology, Cancer Cell, Molecular Cell, Cell Metabolism, and Cancer Discovery.
Chen received a PhD in biochemistry from Emory University and completed postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital. Prior to joining the University of Chicago as the inaugural director of Cancer Metabolomics Research Center, he was Professor of Hematology/Medical Oncology and R. Randall Rollins Chair in Oncology at the Emory University School of Medicine, and Leader of Cell and Molecular Biology Research Program at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
