I’m Jim Feldkamp, and I’ve noticed a disturbing trend in American households. Technology has taken over quality family time, and the bonds that used to hold families together are now weaker than ever. Electronic gadgets have seemingly taken over the lives of family members that quality time now seems rarer than ever.
This is why I believe that the very activity of going out and enjoying nature as a family is very important in preserving the relationships they have with each other. Being a realist, I understand that camping out regularly (once a month) may be out of the question for many busy American families. However, going out and enjoying nature for a few days once or twice a year might be enough to keep the closeness between parents and children.
And that’s not all. There are also tons of other benefits families can get from enjoying the great outdoors. First off, parents and children alike may develop a deeper understanding for nature. This appreciation for the natural world and our environment may foster an awareness that families can take with them back to the city, and maybe inspire them to adopt a greener, more sustainable lifestyle at home.
And don’t forget, camping also teaches children so many important life skills such as cooking, fixing up after yourself, and navigating in places in the middle of nowhere.
