For any activity, indoor or outdoor, a good preparation ensures success. While hiking has always been a relatively popular outdoor activity, it has become more and more desired by individuals for its offer of an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Jim Feldkamp.

Take small steps. Do hiking exercises at home as preparation for the actual hike. When choosing trails to conquer, start with the easiest ones. Starting small will eventually build a hiker’s strength for the more challenging ones. When picking out hiking gear, start with the footwear. Opt for lightweight pairs that are made of quality, all-weather material, while offering protection and comfort for hiking and trailing. Jim Feldkamp.

Dress accordingly. Cotton may not be the best choice when going on a hike as it dries very slowly compared to dri-fit material. Backpacking gear must be lightweight, sweat-resistant, and sometimes insect-repellant. Another thing to note that could be overlooked is to learn about the trail. Part of preparing for a hike is being familiar with the trail by researching it. Most nature parks offer online sources that could guide one through their hike. Jim Feldkamp.

Hike with a team. Having buddies during a hike ensures that if one gets injured, their team can bring them to safety. Plus, it’s always fun to conquer trails with like-minded individuals. Be sure to have a hike checklist that contains all the necessary items for a hiking trip. The list could be short or long, depending on how long the hike will be. Jim Feldkamp.
