Top of show for Cyrano de Bergerac, my director wanted to start off with a boom. We chose to complete this with a hardcore classic hip-hop song that motivates the truss to move to its set position. We then travel into the world of 16th Century France as I blend together a post-Covid twist using hip-hop to my advantage.

Hamlet, presented by a poor actor in the world of Cyrano de Bergerac, provides a moment of comedy before Cyrano's first grand entrance. My director, Avery, specified wanting Cyrano's entrance to be Bring the Pain by Method Man and using QLab's programming I made sure the pauses were as smooth as possible for my operator.

Cyrano is angry and ready to fight, unfortunatly for the untalented Valvert who foolishly challenges him to a duel. As we transition to the pre-rap battle, we also bring down a special mic rigged from the grid to come down wrestling style to truly emphasize the rap battle we will be hearing. The director and I chose to have the swords literally be the mics used on stage for the various rapping moments.

Now, working as a team to help Christian confess his love to Roxane, Cyrano helps to pick the perfect words. The only problem is when he takes over what Christian is meant to be saying and instead starts to profess his own confession, swooning Roxane who believes this to be Christian. I created a motif that at first seems funny before turning more sincere as Cyrano begins to truly reveal how he feels for Roxane, before Roxan leans to kiss Christian. This motif may or may not return later on in the show

As we settle into Act 4, we are in active 4. The men have now been shipped away to fight to their death and unfortunately, Christian is one of the poor individuals to be lost. This sequence takes us through as the war begins to affect the characters in the story before the explosion hits, killing Christian. We very quickly hear the worst of the war before suddenly shifting 15 years into the future for Act 5.
