I was honored, and a little shocked, when I was nominated for Ceredo-Kenova Middle School's Teacher of the Year. Teachers don't do this for awards or praise, but it is always an honor to have your peers think so highly of your work. Just being honored within my building was more than enough for me. To my surprise, I was awarded the 2026-2027 Wayne County Teacher of the year in April of 2026.
This award is important to me becuase I always wanted to change the narrative of what it meant to be a "PE Teacher". I do not "roll the balls out" or sit in a chair and prop my feet up. I consider physical education to be a staple of the school day and I have the ability, through physical activity, to literally help students learn. To me, this award allowed me to feel seen and know that other people across the county feel the same way about my subject matter.
