Grants are essential to physical education programs because they provide the resources needed to enhance students' physical health and overall learning experience. With funding often limited, grants enable schools to purchase new equipment, implement innovative programs, and create opportunities for students to engage in a wider range of physical activities. I have been successful in securing grants or in-kind donations, totaling over $30,000 for my program, receiving awards from SHAPE America and Dick's Sporting Goods, as well as funding through the West Virginia House of Delegates. These grants have allowed me to significantly improve the quality and variety of physical education offerings to my students.
I was awarded the 2026 "World's Best Activity" winner by PE Universe. My activity, Basketball Musical Chairs, was chosen by over 2,000 people across the country as the winner of this contest. Our school was awarded $1,000 by PE supplier, Gopher, to purchase equipment for my classes.
I was awarded the 2021 SHAPE America Impact Grant. This grant totaled over $2,500 to purchase new equipment for my physical education program and attend the 2022 SHAPE America National Conference in New Orleans, LA. While there, I was able to learn from and network with the best physical educators in the country.
I was awarded $3,000 from Dick's Sporting Goods to help purchase new equipment for Ceredo-Kenova Middle School. This money allowed us to purchase over 375 pieces of equipment to add to the program.
I was awarded the 2024 BeActive grant through West Virginia University. This $3,000 grant helped fund a fitness path next to Ceredo-Kenova Middle School in Paul T. Billups Park (Ceredo, WV). They loved our project so much that, a year later, they chose to give us another $7,000 to help complete this project.
In a partnership through WVU, my health classes at Ceredo-Kenova Middle school participated in a vaping education program called CATCH My Breath. In return for using their curriculum and helping them with their research, we were awarded $2,000 to use toward health education classes.
My co-teacher and I worked with Del. Josh Booth to secure $3,000 through the West Viriginia House of Delegates. This funding helped us achieve our goal of creating a weight room for the athletes, staff members, and physical education classes at Fort Gay PreK-8.
Through multiple grant opporunities, I have been awarded over $2,500 from Wal-Mart for various projects in my P.E. classes.
