As early as the Swagghammer piece I was using found objects. Over time to began to push what was used, how it could be used, and why I was using them. I continually collect objects, both personal, and mundane; this is the unseen part of the process. Sometimes I use them to build up a surface, and then I paint on them, sometimes I transform the object, sometimes I implement it as it is. Sometimes the object acts as the canvas, sometimes it is the medium. I try to make these choices before I really get into the work, sometimes you can't get an object back. Hot glue, gesso, matte medium, and Modgepog, become my most trusted confidant during this time. I use found objects primarily to explore the idea of purpose and worth. I love collecting and using photographs in my combines for all of these reasons. I enjoy engaging the three dimensional space in an art piece and once again exploring the idea of shifting, or contrasting, perspectives (see abstract landscapes). Inspired by Jasper Johns, Marcel Duchamp, Robert Rauschenberg, Ed Kienholz, and many more, Noah Purifoy, Radcliffe Bailey, I researched their work and semiotic analysis extensively during this period. My work with abstract landscapes and found objects is what led to my more recent research in line, time, and energy.
