Lessons Learned during the Teaching of the Online Teaching Module

December 7, 2020

This post is a reflection on lessons learned during the delivery (teaching) of the Online Teaching Module that I delivered (taught) my Online Teaching Module to my peers both asynchronously using Google Classroom (Google, n.d.) and synchronously using Google Meet (Google, n.d.). I took turns with members of my Online Teaching Module Peer Review Group in the role of both online teacher, and student. The order in which the units were delivered was determined in collaboration with my group members. We also provide peer feedback to each other.

I received very useful feedback when I delivered (taught) my Crossing the Chasm Online Teaching Module with my peer group,. They suggested that I make my lesson more interactive so there is more dialogue between the students and myself. This would increase both teacher and social presence.

I received the following written feedback from one of my peers after my lesson:

  • On the lesson slides, shorten paragraph text to bullets to reduce the reading and narrow the words down to only the essential ones. The Facebook / beachhead example is very useful. Flesh out the Whole Product / Product slide with some specific examples. What would go in the Whole Product outer rings for example?

The feedback would be useful in helping me reduce the cognitive load on students the next time I taught the lesson by eliminated the unnecessary elements in the slides. It was also helpful to understand understand how I could edit my graphic to increase student learning.
