The First Nations, Métis and Inuit team in conjunction with Curriculum Services offered a collaborative learning opportunity for grade 10 History (Applied, Academic, Locally Developed) teachers to support their understanding of Inuit History and Culture to support teaching of the refreshed Grade 10 History curriculum. This opportunity was offered to meet the calls to action from The Truth and Reconciliation Commission to build “student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect,” and identify “teacher-training needs” relating to that goal (TRC Call To Action #63.3). The collaborative inquiry opportunity was supported by the First Nations, Métis and Inuit Team, the History Consultant and an Inuit Community member from Tungasuvvingatinuit. Participating educators engaged in a collaborative inquiry with the intent of building a community among teachers and making a positive impact on teaching practice and teacher confidence in addressing Inuit history and culture in the classroom.
