Science for the 2 Side will take place in the fabulous 5th grade science lab located in room 315. Science for the 3 side will take place in the lower level Science Lab.
Students will be in science in the 1st and 3rd advisories.
Here are the units that we will cover this year:
Unit 1& 2- Earth Science -The Water Planet and Ecosystems
Unit 3- Physical Science - Chemistry
Unit 4 - Scientific Process - Individual Science Project
We are looking forward to an exciting year of discovery!
The Intermediate Science program builds on the foundation laid in the primary grades. Students will become more skilled at making observations and learn to quantify and make justifiable inferences from their data. They will begin to develop understanding of systems and make deeper connections between lab experiences and issues in the world around them. Students will continue to develop their communication and argumentation skills as they share their ideas with their peers and the larger community. Through these inquiry experiences, students will learn to view themselves as scientists, and will develop the skills and confidence to apply scientific knowledge and processes in their daily lives.
The 5th grade science curriculum is based on the Next Generation Science Standards and supports Common Core standards in Math and ELA. Science instruction is based on an inquiry approach defined as beginning with a question and engaging in investigative practices to answer the question. Science content and vocabulary is developed through the inquiry experiences and reinforced through reading and writing and speaking experiences.
Week of March 24-31
Hello Students and Parents.I hope everyone is doing well. I am looking forward to our first six days of distance learning.
I will post the week’s assignments on Monday on the web site’s Distance Learning Page. Students should complete this week's assignments by Tuesday, March 31st. The expectation is that it will take about 30 minutes a day to complete the assignments. The assignments this week will serve as a review of the Solar System Standards. The assignments will not need to be turned in. Some assignments will be self -checked by students. We will start off slowly this first week, and I will be available each week day from 9-11 and 2-3 to communicate by email.
Science Project
Due to the schedule change, we will not be able to complete the science projects during school time. Therefore, the science project is no longer required. I hope that students will keep any work that they did on their project so that they can use it when they do their first project in Middle school.
Feel free to contact me with questions, or just to check in. Let me know if you have any trouble accessing the sites posted for the work.
Best,
Mrs. Young
