THREE SIDE WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS (5/18-5/22)
TWO SIDE WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS (5/4 - 5/8)
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Math Packet Week 5 (4/20-4/23)
We're on to week FIVE of distance learning! We know this experience has been different for all families - and are in constant communication as a math team for how to improve this process for you and your children. Thank you all for the support so far, and the patience you are awarding us.
All work will be posted and available on the 5th grade website, and in teams.
iReady is a personalized math assessment and instruction platform that students are tested on 3 times a year to determine roughly where they perform in different mathematical domains. As such, instruction is tailored specifically to each student’s level and areas of growth. We are beginning our iReady work in the Number and Operations domain, so all work will focus on this skill

Directions on accessing the reading and writing weekly plan:
Click on the reading or writing calendar.
During the reading block, students should begin the period with approximately thirty-five minutes of sustained reading, preferably a book in their fantasy series. Complete the log and then work on their goal(s) or vocabulary. Check the Daily Plan for the assignments each day.
Students without gmail accounts:
Students who do not use gmail/Google accounts at school should sign into their Clever accounts and click on the Office365 icon or go straight to office.com. Sign in with the following credentials:
studentID@students.k12.dc.us = username
Birthdate (ex. 010203) = password
Once students have logged into office.com, they should click on Teams, then their appropriate reading class, i.e. 5T or 5G, and then click on class materials and they will find documents that they should recognize. They have used these resources to complete their goal work, which is the reading assignment listed on the Daily Plan. Of course, if you have difficulty signing in, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s homeroom teacher. Most students know their login information as they have used it to access both math and reading standardized assessments such as iReady and ANET. Students can also download the teams app and login with their credentials.
Students with gmail accounts:
Students who use their own gmail accounts at school may find guidelines for completing goal work entries and writing about reading in their writing folder on google drive. A resource folder has been created and references for both reading and writing have been placed in those folders. Students may remember reviewing those resources. Students who do not have Google accounts may find those same resources by logging into their Clever accounts or office.com and following the instructions above.
Finally, your reading teacher will contact you and your child to determine how they will hold conferences this week. These conferences are simply opportunities for teachers to meet with your children to provide feedback and answer questions regarding their reading for the week.

During the writing block, students should write, revise, edit or draft according to the assignment. Please remind your children that writing is not linear and while they should always begin with brainstorming and drafting, revising and editing should occur any time during the writing process.

Hello Students and Parents.
April 27 - May 1st Science Assignments
This is our last week of Science. Next week students will be switching to Social Studies with Ms. Hunter. It has been such a pleasure working with the 5th graders this year! They have shown themselves to be very engaged and competent scientists! I know that they will continue their excellent work as they head off to middle school.
This week we will review the Energy in Ecosystems Standards by exploring food webs. Students will watch 3 Mystery Science Videos and read 4 articles about food webs. There are opportunities to do experiments along with the videos, but only Monday's Activity is required, the others are NOT required. Just watch Doug do the experiments.
Students should READ my morning message each day as that explains what they will do that day. They also need to go to their assignments page to READ the assignment each day. All videos, articles and questions are attached to the assignment and can be opened, edited, and turned in from the assignments page.
Have fun exploring this week!
I am available daily on TEAMS from 9-3:00 to chat with students either about schoolwork or just to check in.
